Rubedo is the long awaited collaboration of Denver music scene staples Kyle Gray, Alex Trujillo, and Gregg Ziemba. Kyle Gray fronts this pshycadellic soulful groove with his intimate yet fierce vocals accompanied by an army of unique instrumentation. The group builds an infectious wall of sound so large that one forgets there are only three members on stage. Songs may feature anything from screaming psychedelic ukulele to hissy grunge guitars while being held together by grooves ranging from raw,
frenetic jazz flurries to pulsating synthetic backbeats topped with ghostly melodies and philosophical lyrics.

Stand-Up comedy has recently been coming to more popular light it seems, and the guys who turned me onto it are jumping back on The Space band wagon starting tonight! Ron Funches hosts The Space’s Stand-Up Comedy Night with roughly 10 comics! Stop down for some cold drinks and a battery of comedians that include finalists in the Portland Comedy Competition as well as local acts.

Arizona’s Tugboat arrives on Saturday evening on their Patches Of Land tour. This rock group has strong vocals and melodies dancing on a platform made of rock solid washing drums and layers of keys. Hitchkick from Olympia/Seattle has a heavy blues rock influence with a well established rhythm section and crusty slide electric guitar tricks. Get the led out Saturday, June 12th.

Hollie Pollock’s Justin Miller left me a voicemail about 2 weeks ago asking me for a show on June 3rd with some friends that were travelling through Salem. I returned his phone call and left a confirmation on his voicemail for the date. You know me! I love doing favors for my local boys, so The Slow Children + Hollie Pollock get down to business Thursday evening!

Aloha! Bottle Rocket and Problems? from pdx will greet Hawaiian Indie rockers Shopping List this Friday night. A surprisingly authentic and original take on their genre, the trio joins our local ranks. Meet the friends you never knew you had:)

The Almost Friday camp certainly has a lot of friends… last time they performed The Space was packed wall to wall by 7:30! I dare another local to compete with that kind of draw. Three Way Stereo join them for their CD Release show this Saturday, June 5th. The show is free so come down and enjoy a great weekend event for cheap:)

Visit some Bellingham bands this Sunday!

Bellingham, Washington has always been good to The Space. The groups that pass through from up north are always very talented and excited about the music they perform. Go Slowpoke and Four Players are no different. Very heartfelt pop music and clever melodies are earmarked with these bands and you shouldn’t pass up the opportunity to be a part of their show!

Their music is about the color of the sky, right around when late late night turns to the very earliest part of morning, that moment, it might be say four AM, when people first realize that the night is going to end; it seems that whatever you are doing at that moment, the moment when you notice a magical blue glow in the otherwise black sky, a beautiful metallic inevitable blue, whatever it is you are doing takes on a whole new meaning than it did one breath earlier, because we all know instinctively that when the sun comes up, the world turns upside down. Nathan Vialo & Santos Luna will join us on Friday evening as an installment of a new chapter i have dubbed The Space’s Acoustic Appreciators. Nathan’s style is reminiscent of a early American cadence with folk roots. Treat yourself to a Friday night of great music from Springville! Where’s that?

For a night anyway This night is one to sport your Salem pride and leather jackets! Lets see some hot rods parked out front. Anyone game? The Dry County Crooks have started quite a movement of contemporary Punk and Country in the Portland area and Salem native Kelly LeMieux is rocking the bass! here are their self-proclaimed influences:
